Our commitment
We are committed to identifying, removing, and preventing barriers wherever reasonably possible. This includes barriers that may affect people with visual, hearing, mobility, cognitive, learning, speech, or other disabilities.
Accessibility is an ongoing process. We will continue to review our website, communications, store experience, and customer support practices to improve access and usability.
Website accessibility standard
Our goal is for the Big Box Outlet website to be clear, usable, and accessible. We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level AA, using current best practices where reasonably possible.
As the website evolves, we will continue testing and improving accessibility across pages, forms, navigation, images, documents, and interactive features.
Website accessibility features
The website is being designed to support accessibility features such as:
- Clear headings, page structure, and navigation;
- Keyboard access for menus, links, buttons, and forms;
- Visible focus indicators for keyboard users;
- Readable text, strong colour contrast, and scalable content;
- Alternative text for meaningful images;
- Form labels, instructions, and error messages that are easier to understand;
- Responsive layouts for mobile, tablet, and desktop screens;
- Reduced motion support where animations or transitions are used;
- Accessible language wherever possible.
In-store accessibility
Our stores are located in commercial properties across British Columbia and Alberta. Accessibility features can vary by location due to building layout, landlord-managed property features, parking areas, and local site conditions.
Where available and where site conditions allow, stores may include features such as accessible parking, accessible entrances, wide aisles, mobility-friendly store layouts, accessible washrooms, and customer assistance from team members.
If you need assistance during your visit, please ask a store team member. Our team can help with locating products, reading labels or signage, moving items where safe to do so, checkout support, cart or trolley assistance, and other reasonable requests.
Service animals and support persons
Customers using service animals or visiting with a support person are welcome in our stores, in accordance with applicable law and store safety requirements. If a specific accommodation is needed, please speak with a store team member or contact us before your visit.
Requesting accommodation or reporting a barrier
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our website, in our communications, or in one of our stores, please tell us. We take accessibility feedback seriously and will review each request as promptly as possible.
When contacting us, please include as much detail as you can, such as the store location, website page, device or browser used, the barrier experienced, and the accommodation or alternative format requested.
You can contact us by:
- Email: info@bbos.ca
- Contact form: use the Contact Us page on our website
- Phone or in store: contact or visit your local Big Box Outlet
We aim to acknowledge accessibility-related requests within 2 business days and provide a response, accommodation, or next step as soon as reasonably possible.
Alternative formats
If you need information from our website or communications in an alternative format, please contact us and describe what you need. We will work with you to provide the information in a format that is practical and accessible, such as plain text, large print, or another reasonable format.
Known limitations
We are working to improve accessibility, but some limitations may remain. These may include:
- Third-party content, such as embedded maps, social media feeds, or external platforms that we do not fully control;
- Older files, images, or promotional materials that may not yet meet current accessibility standards;
- PDFs or flyers that may require additional formatting to work well with assistive technologies;
- Location-specific store conditions that vary by building or property.
We will continue reviewing these areas and improving them over time.
Ongoing improvement
Accessibility is part of how we serve our communities. We will continue to listen to feedback, improve our digital and in-store experiences, and train our teams to provide respectful, helpful customer support.
